Don is quite evidently distracted. I think he’s getting over Sylvia and having awful flashbacks of sexual abuse and instead of trying to figure out his emotions, he’s putting all of his pain into work that is going no where.

Oh lord, that was the beginning. Obviously it’s not exactly the same between the prostitute, Amee and Sylvia, but it’s a symbol. 

Don was abused by Amee and then he abused Sylvia, as a way of taking revenge.
